To Leave Legacy In Nova Scotia Schools

27 Nova Scotia school band programs get financial injection

Many of the hottest names in Canadian music got their start in school band rooms and gymnasiums. As Halifax gets ready to host the 2006 JUNO Awards, Halifax Play Hard, the host committee for the 2006 JUNO Awards, has teamed with Musicstop to launch Musicstop Music In Schools, a program designed to potentially raise $135,000 dollars for 27 school band programs across Nova Scotia.

Musicstop Music In Schools is a raffle program that will give 27 schools in Nova Scotia the opportunity to sell 1,000 tickets each on a "WEEKEND FOR TWO AT THE 2006 JUNO AWARDS.” All proceeds from the sale of the tickets will remain in the school for the band program.

The exciting prize package includes hotel accommodations for two nights (April 1st and 2nd), two wrist bands to JunoFest, two tickets to Juno Fan Fare and two tickets to the 2006 JUNO Awards show, live at the Halifax Metro Centre (total value $1,250). There will be one draw for each of the 27 schools for this prize package. The top-selling student in each school will receive a Rogers Pay-As-You-Go cell phone. (See list of participating schools below)

Stuart Jolliffe, Chair, Halifax Play Hard host committee, stated: “The host committee is exceptionally pleased to take the celebration of music and culture and convert that into a legacy of ongoing music education within the school system.”

Brian McConnell, representative of Musicstop, said: “We believe deeply in the positive impact of music making and our public school systems provide a tremendous opportunity to encourage and nurture future music makers. With that in mind, Musicstop is honoured and delighted to participate in the Musicstop Music in Schools program.”

Draws will take place on March 8th. Each winner will be notified by telephone. A formal presentation will be made during the Bringin it Home concert in your area. Prize packages will be delivered after March 13th.

Bringin' it Home is a provincial concert series designed by Music Nova Scotia and the Department of Tourism, Culture and Heritage. It presents a varied line-up of Nova Scotia musicians in locations throughout the province that may not otherwise have exposure to them. The concert series will travel to 27 communities in Nova Scotia with 21 of today’s hottest Nova Scotia music makers.
