TORONTO,
March 1, 2006 – Musicians trade in their guitars
for hockey sticks as the Halifax Forum plays host to the third
annual Juno Cup. The Canadian Academy of Recording
Arts and Sciences (CARAS) along with Juno Cup sponsors including
the Canadian Recording Industry Association (CRIA), EMI Music
Canada, SONY BMG Music Canada, Universal Music Canada, Warner
Music Canada and CRIA's Independent Label members announced today
the first draft of team picks for this celebrity hockey game.
The
puck drops at centre ice on Friday, March 31 at 7:30 p.m.
for the match that sees Canadian musicians square off against
NHL greats. This fun, competitive, non-contact hockey game is
in support of CARAS' Music Education program, MusiCan.
The
artists' team known as "The Rockers", led by team captain
Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), are pumped for the chance to
settle the score from past Juno Cup games (0-2 games in favour
of the "NHL All-Stars"). Alan Doyle
(Great Big Sea), Brent Fitz, Dave Brenner and
Dean Back (Theory of a Deadman), Jarrett Murphy
(Matt Mays & El Torpedo) and Jeremy Taggart
(Our Lady Peace) join the artists' team.
Players
confirmed for the opposing "NHL All-Stars" include Brad
Dalgarno, Kirk Muller, Mark Napier, Mike Pelyk, Paul Coffey and
Russ Courtnall.
Additional
players will be announced at a later date.
"When
we hit the ice the intensity and rivalry will be great -- skates
versus voices, sticks versus instruments. It will be anyone's
game," said Napier.
While
Cuddy is confident in his team, he's still hedging his bets. He
says, "The best we can promise is we will be awful in a new
and unique way."
Tickets for this celebrity fundraiser are available for a donation
of $15 each (plus service charges) and will go on sale Saturday,
March 4, 2006 at 9:00 a.m. (AST). Fans can purchase tickets
either online at www.ticketatlantic.com, by phone at the Ticket
Atlantic Call Centre at (902) 451-1221, in person at the Halifax
Metro Centre Ticket Atlantic Box Office located at 1800 Argyle
Street or at participating Atlantic Superstore ticket outlets
throughout HRM, Elmsdale and Truro.
