Georges P. Vanier Junior High To Perform National Anthem On Instruments Purchased with MusiCan Grant

Ticket Giveaways for The 2006 JUNO Awards Broadcast
During Juno Cup!

Juno Cup is shaping up to be one of the hottest events during Juno Weekend! Today’s announcements include:

  1. Thirty-seven members of Georges P. Vanier Junior High’s Concert Band (Fall River, NS) to perform three musical numbers on instruments purchased with a 2005-2006 $10,000 MusiCan grant. Arrangements include: O’Canada, Hockey Night in Canada theme song, and music from the Broadway musical Chicago.
  2. The face of TSN’s Off The Record, Michael Landsberg, will provide play-by-play commentary straight from the penalty box of the Halifax Forum.
  3. One-time rugged defenseman for the Chicago Black Hawks and current Player Development Consultant for the Halifax Mooseheads Cam Russell will join the “NHL All Stars”.
  4. Randy from Showcase’s Trailer Park Boys will help Mr. Lahey coach “The Rockers”
  5. Tickets for the 2006 JUNO Awards broadcast to be given away during the game!

Players announced to date for “The Rockers” include: Alan Doyle (Great Big Sea), Andrew Scott (Sloan), Barney Bentall, Brent Fitz (Theory of a Deadman), Chris Murphy (Sloan), Classified & DJ Mic Boyd, Cory Tetford (Crush), Dave Brenner (Theory of a Deadman), Dave Marsh (Joel Plaskett Emergency), Dean Back (Theory of a Deadman), Jarrett Murphy (Matt Mays & El Torpedo), Jason Bodner and Vince Fontaine (Eagle and Hawk), Jeremy Taggart (Our Lady Peace), team captain Jim Cuddy (Blue Rodeo), Kevin Parent, Matt Minglewood, Measha Brüeggergosman and Luke Doucet. Coaches for the team include Mr. Lahey and Randy from Showcase’s Trailer Park Boys, Skye Sweetnam, and Tyler Connolly (Theory of a Deadman).

Team players confirmed to date for the “NHL All-Stars” include: Brad Dalgarno, Cam Russell, Danny Grant, Kirk Muller, Mike McPhee as coach, Mark Napier, Mike Pelyk, Paul Coffey, Russ Courtnall, Sami Jo Small of 2006 Team Canada’s Women’s Olympic Gold Medal team as goalie and Tony Currie. Showcase’s Trailer Park Boys Ricky and Bubbles will also play for “The NHL All-Stars”, while Julian coaches the team.

Final team players to be announced next week!

Tickets for this celebrity fundraiser in support of CARAS’ Music Education program, MusiCan, are available for a donation of $15 each (plus service charges). Fans can purchase tickets either online at www.ticketatlantic.com, by phone at the Ticket Atlantic Call Centre at (902) 451-1221, in person at the Halifax Metro Centre Ticket Atlantic Box Office located at 1800 Argyle Street or at participating Atlantic Superstore ticket outlets throughout HRM, Elmsdale and Truro.
