Halifax on Parade Kick-off Concert Will Have Them Dancing
in the Square
March
15, 2006 -- Halifax, NS – The 2006 Juno Weekend will blast
off with one of the hottest events downtown Halifax has ever seen.
Halifax Play Hard, the host committee for the 2006 JUNO Awards,
has lined up five heavy hitters for a free concert to be held
in the Grand Parade on Thursday, March 30. The show will kick
off a fun-filled weekend of exciting events, topped off by the
star-studded JUNO Awards show.
Free
for all ages, concert-goers will be treated to a rich mix of crowd-pleasing
tunes from The Trews, Matt Mays & El Torpedo, Joel
Plaskett Emergency, Jimmy Rankin, and Garrett
Mason. Presented by XM Satellite Radio, the concert will
start at 5:30 pm and go until 11 pm.
“This
is the perfect way to start the Juno Awards weekend. Some of Nova
Scotia’s most popular acts will be performing an outdoor
concert in historic Grand Parade. We hope to fill the square and
show the country what we mean when we say Play Hard!” commented
Stuart Jolliffe, Chair of Halifax Play Hard.
In
addition to the Thursday night concert, residents and visitors
alike can enjoy the non-stop exciting events leading up to the
2006 JUNO Awards CTV broadcast on April 2. These events include
the free Tunes at Noon concert series, Juno Cup star-filled hockey
match, the JunoFest multi-venue music bonanza, Juno Fan Fare artist
autograph sessions, and songs and stories of Canadian music makers
at Songwriters’ Circle.
